Problem
Business documents like invoices and reports are designed in Word or Excel, then rebuilt by hand or in code whenever the data changes. Each Office format stores its content differently, so one template approach rarely works across all of them, and conversion to PDF is a common point of failure.
Approach
Wrote one template compiler: a single {d.path} field and [i] repeat syntax that works across all six formats. Third-party libraries supply only ZIP/XML handling, image transforms, PDF manipulation and barcodes. Around it sits a durable job service with tenant API keys, immutable template versions, signed completion webhooks, SQLite backup and restore, and a supervised PDF converter that recovers after timeouts.
Outcome
Version 1.0.0 ships as a standalone Docker image with a public documentation site that states what each format supports and what it does not. Before an image is published, CI renders a document corpus and compares the PDF output against independently produced expected documents.
